The fourth refrain. After the last of the three proof sections.

And here there is a turning point: with this refrain the section of proofs closes. From verse 29 on the sūra stops offering proofs and moves to the scene.

The distinction recorded in the table above becomes visible here:

• 15-28: three proofs (history, body, earth). All open with a-lam, all are from this world.
• 29-40: four scenes. All are from that day.

The refrain stands as the hinge joining the two halves.

And in terms of sound there is a break here too: the verse-ending of verse 27 is furātā, that of the refrain al-mukadhdhibīn. This is one of the three ill-fitting transitions I recorded above. Coming immediately after the sweet water, this break in sound announces the change of section to the ear as well.
