55/13 — The first refrain
The analysis of the refrain was made in a separate section above; I do not repeat it. Here only two points particular to this first occurrence:
One. This refrain comes after a section of twelve verses — the longest section in the sūra. And the list behind it contains the following: a name, three verbs, sun, moon, najm, shajar, sky, balance, earth, fruit, palm, grain, husk, fragrant herb.
At the first asking, then, a list of fourteen items stands before the one addressed. The question covers not one of them but all of them at once.
Two. And the difficulty recorded above in the discussion of the dual form stands here: the dual pronoun (Rabbikumā) occurs here for the first time, but men and jinn will be named in the following verse. This difficulty is not concealed; the three answers given were entered in the table above.
